Discover the Diverse Wildlife of Samara Private Game Reserve
The award-winning Samara Karoo Reserve takes you on a conservation journey through 67,000 acres of rejuvenated wilderness in the breathtakingly beautiful Great Karoo region of South Africa. Established in 1997, Samara has been a pioneer in the rewilding of this semi-arid yet remarkably biodiverse landscape, driving an ambitious vision to expand the conservation estate to cover a vast 3-million-acre area within a Global Biodiversity Hotspot.
Today, the reserve stands as one of South Africa’s most diverse safari destinations, encompassing five distinct vegetation biomes spread across dramatically varied terrain. It serves as a home to over 60 mammal species, including the Big Five and cheetahs, along with a rich tapestry of 225 bird species. Three intimate lodges extend a warm welcome to guests, offering thoughtful, meaningful, and exceptional safari experiences.
Nestled like an oasis in the semi-desert terrain, The Manor is an elegant villa in contemporary Karoo style at the heart of Samara Karoo Reserve’s vast 67,000 acres of regenerated wilderness. It’s exclusive-use accommodation for up to 8 guests seeking privacy and relaxation.
Samara is among South Africa’s most diverse safari destinations, offering intimate and exceptional encounters with nature in line with its rewilding vision.
Upon arrival, be captivated by The Manor’s glass doors framing breathtaking mountain views, an infinity pool, and a waterhole. Enjoy a private vehicle, guide, tracker, chef, and tailored family activities.
The Manor accommodates 8 guests in 4 individually appointed luxury suites with double or twin beds, a shower, free-standing bath, private patio with outdoor seating, and magnificent mountain views. Each suite caters to 2 adults.
The suites can be booked separately, or the entire villa can be exclusively reserved. Exclusive use of The Manor includes four suites, all communal areas, a private vehicle, guide, and chef.
Samara’s star bed provides a romantic wilderness experience in total seclusion along a riverside. The four-poster bed, covered with a mosquito net, is placed on a raised platform, offering panoramic views of the mountains and the sky for a serene night in the Great Karoo landscape.
The star bed experience begins shortly before sunset with a picnic dinner and sundowners. Guests can enjoy the stunning view of the mountain landscape and observe local wildlife coming to the river to drink. As the night sky unfolds, the star bed provides an ideal vantage point for admiring the canopy of constellations overhead.
Samara is a unique private game reserve where walking is a key part of the safari experience. With a commitment to protecting fragile ecosystems, we prefer exploring on foot.
Guided by experienced experts, you’ll journey through five distinct vegetation biomes, discovering hidden wildlife signs. Immerse yourself in nature’s sights and sounds, from industrious termites to the call of the Honeyguide.
