Discover a unique and understated luxury tented accommodation with the magnificent Swartberg mountains as your backdrop and a breathtaking waterhole right at your doorstep. This is the closest you’ll come to experiencing the untamed beauty of the Klein Karoo. Nestled just 6.5 km outside Oudtshoorn, the world’s ostrich capital, our lodge offers a genuine African experience. Situated 300 metres from the road leading to the renowned Cango Caves, our main lodge area overlooks a 5-hectare waterhole teeming with big fish, turtles, and hippo. From the surrounding wooden deck, you can observe elephants, hippo, and other wildlife on the opposite bank, making your stay a truly memorable encounter with nature.
Our luxurious accommodation consists of 34 free-standing tents, each thoughtfully and stylishly decorated, providing you with both a genuine bushveld experience and all the comforts of luxury living. Among them, we offer nine Luxury Waterhole tents situated right at the water’s edge, each with its own private deck overlooking the water, ideal for sundowners or basking in the warm African sun. These tents often afford sightings of hippos and other game directly from your private space. Additionally, we have 20 Luxury tents located just a few meters away from the water, delivering magnificent views of the waterhole and the majestic Swartberg Mountain Range. For families, we have five Luxury-Family tents, each featuring two separate bedrooms and a shared en-suite bathroom. As our guest, you’ll enjoy all-day access to a private swimming pool, perfect for cooling off during those scorching summer days. This pool, like the Waterhole tents, offers splendid views and a chance to soak up the Karoo sun at the water’s edge.
Our Waterfront Tents are perfect for those who appreciate being close to the water’s edge. The sundeck of each waterfront tent extends over the water, providing an ideal spot for relaxation during your stay with us. Each tent is air-conditioned and features an en-suite bathroom with complimentary amenities, all while offering breathtaking views.
Our luxury tents are positioned just a few meters from the waterhole, offering an elevated perspective of the surroundings. They also provide excellent views of the entire lodge area and are surrounded by the authentic Karoo fynbos. Each tent is equipped with air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom with amenities, and boasts breathtaking views.
The Family units have a spacious main room and a children’s room with a shared en-suite bathroom separating the rooms. These units can accommodate a family of up to 5 people. Each tent is air-conditioned and have breathtaking views.
During our bush safaris, you can expect to experience true Karoo vegetation from our open game viewing vehicles. Our wide range of animals includes Hippo, Giraffe, Eland, Zebra, Buffalo, Springbok, and much more. The duration of our bush safaris is ± 2 hours. About midway through the safari, there is a refreshment break at one of our scenic lookout points. These offer 360° panoramic views of the area as well as the Swartberg Mountains.
None of our elephants have been taken from the wild for captivity. The three elephants were orphaned when the adults were poached. Our elephants come from circumstances that if we did not intervene they would not be alive today. We did not choose this life for them but we rather chose to give them the best possible life within our means with the best possible love and care. All our elephant excursions have a most informative educational approach.
We are fortunate that they ended up here at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge as they are true gentle giants and have great personalities. Elephants are very affectionate and caring animals.
