Situated within the pristine De Hoop Nature Reserve, the Morukuru Beach Lodge exudes luxury, offering a boutique eco-lodge experience along South Africa’s captivating coastline. Approximately 1 km from the exclusive Morukuru Ocean House, the lodge is a beacon of tranquility and intimate luxury. With the inviting beach just a short walk away, guests find themselves in what is arguably Africa’s prime location for land-based whale watching during the whale season from July to October. The Lodge’s positioning not only promises unparalleled views and access to the beach but also allows guests to engage in a host of activities. From mountain biking, engaging fynbos and marine walks, snorkeling in protected rock pools at low tide, to sand-boarding and nature drives, the lodge is a gateway to adventure and serene relaxation alike.
The five-suite lodge, a proud member of Relais & Chateaux, is meticulously designed to cater to the needs of couples and smaller families travelling along the iconic Garden Route. Guests can choose from one Honeymoon Suite, two Ocean View Suites, and two Ocean View Family Suites, each promising a stay marked by luxury and comfort. The off-grid lodge utilises solar panels for electricity generation, resorting to backup generators during extended cloudy periods. Inclusive in the daily rate are all meals and drinks, along with two guided activities shared with other esteemed guests, ensuring a stay that is both exclusive and environmentally conscious. With a driving time of approximately 3.5 hours from either Cape Town or Knysna and the option of a 50-minute private charter flight from Cape Town, accessing the lodge is convenient, making it an ideal stopover for those eager to experience the allure of the Garden Route in grand style.
The two Ocean View Family Suites (90 sqm each) boast large floor-to-ceiling glass doors, providing stunning ocean views. Each suite features both indoor and outdoor sitting areas, complemented by cosy fireplaces. The spacious en-suite bathrooms include separate baths and showers, as well as double vanity units.
Each Ocean View Family Suite can accommodate two adults and two children under 16, with the children sharing with their parents.
The two Ocean View Suites (90 sqm each) feature large floor-to-ceiling glass doors, affording guests breathtaking ocean views. Each suite offers indoor and outdoor sitting areas and is equipped with a fireplace. The spacious en-suite bathrooms are fitted with separate baths and showers, as well as double vanity units.
Each Ocean View Suite can accommodate two guests only.
The Honeymoon Suite, spanning 90 sqm, boasts floor-to-ceiling glass doors, presenting views of the surrounding fynbos-covered dunes and offering a partial glimpse of the ocean. The suite provides both indoor and outdoor sitting areas, complemented by a fireplace for added warmth and ambiance. A large deck graces the suite, equipped with an outdoor bathtub and sun loungers for relaxation under the sky. The spacious en-suite bathroom features both a separate bath and shower, along with double vanity units.
The Honeymoon Suite can accommodate a maximum of two guests.
The De Hoop Nature Reserve is one of the best places in Africa for land-based whale watching. During the winter months (July – October), large numbers of Southern Right whales enter the sheltered bay of this Marine Protected Reserve to give birth to their calves. Thanks to the proximity of Morukuru Beach Lodge to the beach, it’s possible to see the whales directly from your room.

Guests at Morukuru Beach Lodge have the opportunity to discover the beauty of De Hoop Nature Reserve on mountain bikes. We offer bikes in various sizes, accommodating even younger children. Guests may choose to explore the reserve independently or participate in a guided activity alongside other guests.
